General Dermatology

What is General Dermatology?

General dermatology is a branch of medicine that focuses on optimizing the health of the skin, hair, nails, and mucosal membranes. This can include preventive care, such as skin cancer screenings, as well as reactive care. For example, treatment for acne or dermatitis qualifies as general dermatology.

Furthermore, the board-certified dermatologists at Dermatology & Aesthetic Care are also experienced in providing ongoing care for chronic conditions, including eczema, psoriasis, and rosacea.

If you have any questions or need to schedule a dermatology appointment, please contact our office by calling (937) 436-1117 or request an appointment online.

Yes, a dermatologist is a doctor. Similar to other medical practitioners, a dermatologist has to undergo several years of education and hands-on training to acquire their dermatology degree and become a board-certified doctor.

The steps in becoming a board-certified dermatologist include getting a bachelor’s degree, attending medical school, completing a residency, becoming a licensed practitioner, and passing their board certification. Typically, this process takes around 12 years to complete.

There are several different subspecialties within the branch of dermatology medicine. This includes cosmetic dermatology, surgical dermatology (Mohs surgery), dermatopathology, and pediatric dermatology.

At our state-of-the-art dermatology clinic, we offer general and cosmetic dermatology services, including Botox, to patients throughout Centerville and southwestern Ohio.

Some dermatologists perform surgery, but not all. In many cases, a general dermatologist will undergo additional training to amplify their knowledge and hone their skills in surgical dermatology, including Mohs surgery.

According to the American Academy of Dermatology, the most common dermatology conditions by the numbers are acne, atopic dermatitis (also known as eczema), hair loss, psoriasis, rosacea, and skin cancer.

At Dermatology & Aesthetic Care, we deeply understand these common conditions and can help you address them through personalized treatment plans. Contact us today to learn more.

This depends on the nature of your dermatology visit. In many cases, preventive care visits, such as skin cancer screenings, and comprehensive treatment visits are covered by insurance. However, elective dermatology visits are generally not covered. This often includes cosmetic treatments.

For more detailed information on whether your dermatology visits are covered by insurance, we recommend you consult with your insurance provider.
